James is right that ignorance is bliss… but I get extremely angry when I hear something as watered down as “they hate us for our freedoms”. Why can’t they treat us like adults? Give us the facts and let us decide for ourselves.

Glad I hit my target with Pessimistic and bitter. I also would have accepted “caustic”, “exaggerated”, “elitist”, and “immature”. Sorry if I missed my Lewis Black / David Cross target. On the one hand I’m trying to have fun with this. On the other, doesn’t it seem sometimes like the reasonable options have worn themselves out? Like it’s time to just be flabbergasted, throw up your hands and just laugh in their faces?

Yeah, ignorance is bliss. I’ve been haunted by an interview I heard with a lady from the Dem. Rep. of Congo: http://www.democracynow.org/2007/10/8/they_are_destroying_the_female_species. It’s the single most horrible thing I’ve ever heard, and I can’t get that bliss back. I can’t make an argument for whether we should expose ourselves to this stuff if we’re still unwilling to do anything about it.

I knew I shouldn’t have thrown nascar in there – I had to use something – yes, it’s an easy target (the acronym *does* have the words “Stock Car” and “Auto” next to each other). But corruption is a side issue to my post – I know we have strong competitors in that department, not that we should wait unti we catch up to get worried about it. It’s the sheer audacity of truth-bending that gets me; that it’s so in our faces every day and it’s becoming more and more accepted as commonplace.

Admittedly, “Lucas’ Delusion” was a tenuous introduction to the topic. It fit well enough that I used it. Maybe I should have clarified that I saw the blindness of Lucas’ fanboys as a similar mentality. I didn’t even intend to go into the poltical bent with it.

And I didn’t write this to preach – I saw Dark Knight twice and want to see it again. I’m guilty of loving the pretty colors and loud noises more than most.

Remember, ignorance is bliss – it really, really is. There’s nothing wrong with NASCAR and if you really want to see corruption go to the either one of the Congos, Rwnada, Zambia or Burundi. …or Malaysia, or China, or Indonesia, etc etc etc.

BTW, Clone Wars only made $5 million last weekend or $24 million in 2 weeks. That’s nothing to sneeze at but I don’t think it’s enough to draw a connection from “Lucas’ Delusion” to why the universe is broken. BTW, The Dark Knight made $489 million in 6 weeks. What’s that say?
