Fears over privacy as police expand surveillance project : Not only are the British police watching everything their citizens do, but with new license place recognition system they’ll now track and log every vehicle’s travels. This is as invasive as equiping cars with GPS recievers that send details back to a central system.
This CCTV surveillance system didn’t stop the bombings in 2005 which killed 56 people. It did, however, help identify the bombers which led to raids 5 days later. Arrests made within 2 weeks.
