The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.
Reproducing this was no easy feat, but since moving to Atlanta what choice did I have? Dominos? It’s been a bit of an obsession. I’ve had a lot of failed experiments. However now I can honestly say that the recipe is fully accurate and reproducible. The final breakthrough came in Jan 2005 when I finally got a handle on the proper mixing equipment and procedure. But do not think that following this will be easy. It’s not. It will still take practice. Many others have confirmed that by following these steps they too have come to near perfection. This may be the most detailed, accurate and complete recipe on the net for making a true Pizza Napoletana.
when we are relaxed, our brains are more flexible and more likely to find workarounds to difficult problems. In contrast, when we are frustrated and tense, our brains get a sort of tunnel vision where we only see the problem in front of us. How many times, in a fit of frustration, have you tried the same thing over and over again, hoping it would somehow work the seventeenth time around?
The more we learn about people, and how our brains process information, the more we learn the truth of that phrase: form and function aren’t separate items. If we believe that style somehow exists independent of functionality, that we can treat aesthetics and function as two separate pieces, then we ignore the evidence that beauty is much more than decoration. Our brains can’t help but agree.
Help Remedies aim to solve simple health issues simply by stripping away the extraneous elements. The packaging is molded from recycled paper pulp and is compostable, and all Help’s products are packaged together at its upstate New York factory which employs adults with learning disabilities. The 500mg acetaminophen pills are as pure as possible, and without the dyes and coatings most brands are fond of using to pretty up meds. Acetaminophen doesn’t cause stomach problems the way aspirin and ibuprofen can. These next-generation bandages are made of hydrocolloid, the same material hospitals use to help wounds heal faster and reduce scarring. These strips are nearly invisible, and should stay on for several days. They are best for minor cuts and blisters. If all that wasn’t helpful enough, 5% of profits are returned to charities that help people without healthcare get healthcare.
At In-N-Out you can order custom-made food. Some customizations are available at no additional cost; those that use inventoried items such as cheese, meat, and buns cost extra. While it’s not on the printed menu, there are buttons on the cash register for these items. You can pretty much order anything you want, as long as they have the ingredients (e.g., putting onions in a milkshake). While the “secret” menu is listed on the In-N-Out corporate site, it is far from complete.
Also, keep in mind that since you can customize anything, you can feel free to order whatever you want and create your own “double-secret personal menu”. Get a 0×3 with four slice of tomato on a double toasted bun and call it a “cheesy wiki”. The following are just the custom orders that are popular enough to go by well known names.
Clear uses biometric (fingerprint and iris image) verification to confirm each member’s identity. This includes advanced finger-scan technology, as well as non-invasive iris imaging.
Clear is working on a second generation kiosk featuring state-of-the-art technology developed by Clear and General Electric that is being tested by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Clear expects to unveil shoe-scanning technology as soon as it is approved by TSA, which will enable Clear members to leave their shoes on during security screening.

V.S. Ramachandran is a mesmerizing speaker, able to concretely and simply describe the most complicated inner workings of the brain. His investigations into phantom limb pain, synesthesia and other brain disorders allow him to explore (and begin to answer) the most basic philosophical questions about the nature of self and human consciousness.
WEDNESDAY, Oct. 22 (HealthDay News) — It sounds like science fiction, by scientists say it might one day be possible to erase undesirable memories from the brain, selectively and safely.
Using a complex genetic approach, U.S. and Chinese researchers believe they have done just that in mice, but the feat is far from being tested on humans.
Study co-author Joe Z. Tsien, co-director of the Brain & Behavior Discovery Institute at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, says the “work reveals a molecular mechanism of how [memory deletion] can be done quickly and without doing damage to brain cells.”
One of the most amazing pieces of freeware that I’ve ever used is finally available for the PC – XBMC. It originated as a media center for the original Xbox. A simple software hack with some ftping and you’re xbox was transformed into a media center PC; able to play virtually any media file across your home network. The software is so well put together. The interface works well, the options are endless. I can’t believe the amount of time these guys have put into software for a hacked game platform. It seems obvious that it should move over to the PC.
A few months ago it was released for OSX. The other day it was released for Linux and windows as well. It’s still in beta, but I’ve heard good things about it.
Fears over privacy as police expand surveillance project : Not only are the British police watching everything their citizens do, but with new license place recognition system they’ll now track and log every vehicle’s travels. This is as invasive as equiping cars with GPS recievers that send details back to a central system.
This CCTV surveillance system didn’t stop the bombings in 2005 which killed 56 people. It did, however, help identify the bombers which led to raids 5 days later. Arrests made within 2 weeks.
1.Food. Buying organic food, brand name products, or too much food at any one time can lead to a lot of wasted money. By buying only what you’re sure you’ll use, not purchasing snacks at the register, and making sure to use items before they expire, you may very well save hundreds of dollars per month..
2. Housing. Everyone who owns their own home knows that housing is one of the number one money leaks. Even if you’re a renter, you’ll find that home expenses can add up quickly. One great tip is to follow the trend of going green, and you can expect to save money over time by reducing your energy costs..
3. Transportation Transportation costs can be another wastefull black hole for your cash. Read more…
Okay, this is going to be my thing on this blog. It’s not tech or archi-[choose your own clever suffix]. This is my legitimate, ongoing account that God or the Matrix robots or the giant, galactic turtle that the elephants ride on, gave up, a long time ago, the effort to convince us that we do in fact live in a realistic, feasible, meatspace environment governed by logic and reason. That or it’s a witty rant blog. Or neither. So for my first entry, I pursue a fact-of-life/raison d’etre both cherished and embarassing for most of the people who waste their time here. I know most of us have e-mailed about it already, but its absence from this forum, while simultaneously being the most talkable-about recent event, could stand no further. Read more…
“The engine design is expected to significantly increase fuel efficiency for sustainable bio
alcohol fuels,” Lotus Engineering’s Mike Kimberley said, which means you should prepare to see rappers filling their 2011 Exiges with Cristal and Courvosier.
A recent “tri-fuel” concept Exige drove like a bat out of Hethel, delivering 270 horsepower and
hitting 60 mph from a standstill in 3.88 seconds. That beats the current gas-only Exige S by 52 horsepower and 22 hundredths of a second, all while minimizing tailpipe emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. When the “tri-fuel” concept was unveiled in May, Lotus made it clear we’ve got plenty of time to save up, because it’s at least four to five years from production.
